Striking Salvias

I had to move a daylily to make room for two salvias I impulse-purchased this spring. ‘Lyrical Blues’ has electric, violet-blue flowers:

The plants are sturdy with an upright habit. They grow 22-24″ tall and prefer full sun. My plant was loaded with buds when I bought it in early May. I’ve already trimmed it back once and new buds continue to form. ‘Lyrical Blues’ is hardy in Zones 4-9.

I planted ‘Lyrical Blues’ alongside salvia ‘Sensation Rose’:

The flowers are pink with a purplish undertone. This salvia is very cold hardy (to Zone 3) and grows 12 inches tall and wide. Just like ‘Lyrical Blues’ I already cut it back a couple of weeks ago and it’s full of newly emerging side branches and buds.

Our neighbors raise honeybees, and the bees are drawn to the flowers like a magnet. So far I’m very impressed with both of these new salvia cultivars, and they look great together.
