Tulipa Linifolia

Tulipa linifolia has been around since 1884. Unlike regular garden tulips, this species tulip will bloom year after year.

The bulbs produce screaming-red flowers that grow 4 to 6 inches tall. The flowers are so bright that my camera had trouble focusing on them:

The flowers open wide when there’s sunshine, and you will definitely notice this cultivar from across the yard.

Tulipa linifolia makes a great front-of-the-border plant. Over time it will spread and naturalize. The flowers appear in mid-to-late spring.
