My LA (longiflorum-Asiatic) lilies bloomed like crazy in late June into mid-July and added a lot of bright color to the yard. One of my new favorites is ‘Red Alert’ with its gorgeous blackish-red blooms:
Many descriptions of this plant claim it’s slightly fragrant, but I beg to differ. I plunged my nose into a half-dozen different blooms and detected no scent whatsoever.
You can grow ‘Red Alert’ in sun or part-shade. LA lilies are known for their sturdy stalks, and the plants get bigger and more robust every year.
‘Red Alert’ grows 3 to 4 feet tall and blooms for several weeks in late June and early July. The bulbs are hardy in Zones 5-10.
