In its second year in my garden, LA hybrid lily ‘Red Alert’ is only getting better. The rich, dark-red blooms can’t be ignored:
This lily grows 3 to 4 feet tall in sun or part-shade. The flowers start appearing in late June and the show continues for several weeks.
The red color changes depending on the light conditions.
Last year I couldn’t detect any scent coming from ‘Red Alert’, but the other day I did some sniffing on a very humid day, and I did notice a faint sweet perfume.
Like other LA lilies, ‘Red Alert’ grows taller on thicker stalks every year. I planted this cultivar with some bubblegum-pink LA lilies and I love the color combination.
