Garden Winner: Marigold ‘Strawberry Blonde’

In early July, I introduced you to a new French marigold cultivar called ‘Strawberry Blonde’. The flowers start out dark red and then fade to shades of yellow, mauve and pink.

Those subtle colors are something new for marigolds which tend to come in only very bright shades of yellow, orange and red that some gardeners find gaudy.

The upright, bushy plants grow 8 to 10 inches tall.

I planted this marigold throughout my flowerbeds, and I also stuck some in a pot on my patio. My plants are all pest and disease-free and have been blooming for 9 weeks already.

The muted shades are a fun change of pace for marigolds and the plants are well-behaved and only need occasional deadheading. I would definitely grow ‘Strawberry Blonde’ again.
