Someone should’ve taken the lily catalogs away from me!
My intention was to order a couple of bulbs to replace some of my plants that succumbed to the bitter winters, the flooding rains and the high winds we’ve experienced over the last 3 summers. I am not going to tell you how many bulbs I ordered, but let’s just say that sometime in mid-October I’m going to be walking around the yard muttering to myself about where ON EARTH I think I’m going to put them all.
If I could’ve just replaced some of the cultivars that disappeared on me, I probably would’ve been okay, but many of them are no longer for sale. The catalogs were full of so many new and exciting cultivars to try that I got myself in trouble.
Planting the bulbs wouldn’t be so bad if I could just stick them in the ground and forget them. But hungry bunnies and chipmunks are always lurking, so I need to protect all my lilies with a short fence. That makes an easy job much more complicated.
Next summer’s lily display is going to be amazing, but before that can happen I needed to apologize to myself for all the work ahead in October!
