As expected, my last amaryllis for the year, ‘Elvas”, started blooming this week.
The plants grow 22 to 26 inches tall with lovely double white flowers brushed in ruby red. The flowers are about 5 inches across.
‘Elvas’ is opening a full two months later than the first amaryllis that bloomed for me this winter season which was ‘Splash’.
As you can see ‘Elvas’ is a bit of a “leaner” but if you keep it turned regularly it straightens up. So far my bulb has sent up just one flower stalk with 4 flowers on it.
