A few weeks ago when I wrote about the new-to-me Allium ‘Ambassador’ bulbs that were starting to bloom in my yard I had NO IDEA they were just getting started.
Every day more and more tiny purple florets pop out of the already-HUGE blooms. And they are a magnet for honeybees.
We had a relatively mild winter with lots of snow cover so it wasn’t a good year to test the hardiness of bulbs, but if these alliums can survive a polar vortex I would definitely plant more of them. They bloom late for alliums, so they hit that sweet spot between the finale of the spring bulbs and the the start of the summer-blooming flowers.
