More than half the days in October were way above normal for temperatures for us and some of the plants got the wrong idea. How ’bout some lilacs in October?
As you can probably guess, this isn’t good and it means these lilacs and other confused spring shrubs and trees that normally bloom in early May will probably offer few or no blooms next spring now.
Many perennial flowers in my yard and in the neighborhood put out a third flush of blooms. But unless we get a wild swing in temperatures in early November, they should still have plenty of time yet to wind down and prepare for winter.
