Earlier this week a local meteorologist reported that our area is in a 22-inch snow deficit for meteorological winter (December-February).
That would be an alarming statistic during any winter. But considering how dry many of our last several summers have been, it could mean officially being in a drought before this year’s growing season even begins.
Yesterday’s snowstorm cut into the snow deficit by several inches.
And thankfully there are several more chances for accumulating snow before the week is out.
I usually dread February snowstorms because I’m ready for spring by now. But I’ll happily welcome (and shovel) any snow that falls this month and helps prevent another drought.
