I purchased Hosta ‘Fire Island’ in 2018 and this is the best year it’s had so far. I think it’s because we’ve had such a mild spring. This hosta is sitting under my backyard serviceberry shrub and it gets morning shade, but then it’s subjected to the hot afternoon sun between 2 and 4 pm. Its favorite conditions would be the other way around—morning sun and afternoon shade. With too much sun the leaves burn.
‘Fire Island’ grows about 15 inches tall and spreads about 2 feet. The leaves are an eye-catching chartreuse green.
This hosta is hardy in Zones 3-9 and sends up lavender flowers in mid-summer.
