Fall and Winter and Fall

We finally had a killing frost this week, but the weather can’t make up its mind. On Monday we had our first measurable snow (just flurries and a few light snow squalls—nothing that stuck around, but enough to consider it a “trace” for the records).

The Mourning Doves were bracing for it on Sunday night. They hung around one of my birdbaths at dusk taking advantage of one last bath and drink before the water froze solid overnight.

We barely got above 40(F) for a high temperature on Monday and Tuesday with a wicked wind that made it feel like December instead of October. But don’t look now, fall is back! For the next three days we’ll flirt with 70 degrees or higher. It will be a good weekend for fall yard and garden clean-up!
