Another one of my Asiatic lily impulse buys this spring was ‘Landini.’ It’s sometimes touted as the darkest Asiatic lily available. The flowers can appear blackish-red or even purple.
‘Landini’ grows 4 feet tall in sun or part-shade. My ‘Landini’ put on a nice display this summer in my mixed perennial border. The bold color really attracts attention.
Lilies take up such little space that it’s easy to tuck them into perennial beds. They’ll bloom from late June into July. They also make excellent cut flowers. Just be sure to leave about two-thirds of the stem when you cut the flowers so that there’s enough foliage to supply the bulb with food for next year’s blooms.
