Dessert for the Garden: Meet ‘Ruffled Strawberry Parfait’

It’s nice to have a few late-blooming daylilies to finish off the daylily growing season. ‘Ruffled Strawberry Parfait’ bloomed into late August for me this year.

Most of the daylily cultivars I grow finish blooming 3 to 4 weeks earlier. In our growing zone, daylilies rarely have time to rebloom like they do in warmer climates. When they’re done blooming, that’s usually the end of the show for the year.

‘Ruffled Strawberry Parfait’ grows 28 inches tall with light pink and cream flowers that have a gold throat. The petals on those 6-inch flowers sport yellow ruffles (also known as “chicken fat”).

This dormant daylily was registered in 2003. It has since been bred to create almost 100 other registered daylilies!

The muted colors of ‘Ruffled Strawberry Parfait’ would look lovely blooming in a cottage garden. In my yard the pretty flowers liven up a tired-by-late-August perennial bed.
