There are almost 110,000 registered daylilies as of March 2025. Often they have clever or interesting names.

One can assume this daylily is a nod to the Wizard of Oz! Here is ‘A Little Fire, Scarecrow’:

This eye-catching daylily has a bright yellow-green throat and midribs that run along its bright-red flowers. The petals and sepals sport a creamy edge.

I purchased and planted this daylily in 2023, but it didn’t bloom until this summer. It was well worth the wait! The plant churned out flowers for more than 5 weeks.

‘A Little Fire, Scarecrow’ is a tall cultivar for the middle or back of a flowerbed. It reaches 47 inches tall with can’t-miss 6.5-inch flowers.

‘A Little Fire, Scarecrow’ was registered in 2005 and won an American Daylily Society “Honorable Mention” award in 2012.

This daylily blooms later in the daylily season.
