We had a preview of chilly fall weather at the beginning of September that had many people craving pumpkin flavors or digging out sweatshirts and jackets from the back of their closets. My thoughts went to fall mums.
My first goal was to return to the apple farm where I bought a huge tri-colored mum last year:
But then the latest Trader Joe’s newsletter announced that mini mums had returned!
I bought a couple on a whim last year and was pleasantly surprised when they lasted for more than a month in front of my south-facing window. All I had to do was water them regularly (i.e. no trimming or fertilizing necessary).
They come in golden-yellow and dark-red, plus there’s a little orange and yellow striped one:
