An August Show-off

I’m still completely enamored with my ‘Early Bird Gold’ Rudbeckia plants. Now that many of my perennials are done blooming for the season, ‘Early Bird Gold’ is a bright spot in my flowerbeds. My plants have never shown any signs of disease, and they have thrived this year despite an overabundance of rain.

This is a clump of three one-year-old plants:

‘Early Bird Gold’ is supposed to grow 24 inches tall, but my plants have topped out at 18 to 20 inches this summer. The clump growing in part-shade is just as robust as the one growing in full sun.

In just two seasons ‘Early Bird Gold’ has zoomed up to the top of my list of easy-care, long-blooming perennials.
