The darkest daylily I grow is ‘Jungle Beauty’. The smoky-purple blooms appear almost black at times.
I tucked my plant into a trouble spot in the corner of our property several years ago. It’s thriving, but because I let that area grow a little more wild than the rest of my flowerbeds, it’s difficult to take any decent photographs without some complicated yoga moves.
Last summer I planted an orange ‘Mauna Loa’ daylily next to ‘Jungle Beauty’. I was worried the colors would clash, but I think they look feisty together:
It’s probably a waste for me to be growing ‘Jungle Beauty’ in the “jungle” area of my yard. I think next spring I’ll move it to a more prominent location where it can attract the attention it deserves.
