I wanted to love ‘Helen Shooter’, but after putting up with a less-than-stellar performance in my garden for the last five years, I finally gave my plant up for adoption last summer.
‘Helen Shooter’ has huge 7-inch, light-pink flowers that appear on 25-inch-tall scapes. While the foliage was always healthy, my plant rarely sent up blemish-free flowers. They always had splotches or discolorations on them, and sometimes the flowers wouldn’t even open fully.
Perhaps my plant was the exception, not the rule, but after five years it was time to replace ‘Helen Shooter’ with something more reliable.
