Daylilies have different types of fragrances, but there’s one that’s so sweet and yummy that it stops me in my tracks every time—especially on humid days when the scent hangs heavy in the air.
‘Peggy Jeffcoat’ gives off that delicious scent.
The creamy, double blooms are 7 inches across but appear on plants only 18 inches tall.
With ‘Space Wars’ I don’t have to lean way over to get a whiff of its enticing scent.
‘Space Wars’ grows 28 inches tall and also has huge, 7-inch flowers. This daylily blooms in-the-middle-of/leaning-toward-late-in the daylily season. It sends up scores of pretty flowers with that dizzying aroma.
My hands-down favorite is “Huckleberry Candy’:
This daylily has the same delicious scent but manages to broadcast it better than any daylily I grow. You don’t have to plunge your nose into the flowers to enjoy the experience.
‘Huckleberry Candy’ is also a hearty bloomer. The plant churns out flowers for 8 weeks or more each summer. Last year I was so impressed with ‘Huckleberry Candy’ that I chipped off a little piece of it so I could start a second plant.
‘Huckleberry Candy’ grows 20 inches tall with 4-inch flowers.
