The Daylilies are Popping

Despite the unusually crisp spring, my daylilies are only a few weeks behind, although the order of their appearance is a little wacky. Usually ‘Wispy Rays’ opens in the middle of the daylily season. This year it was the first large daylily to open:

Some of my other daylilies are sending up a record number of scapes. ‘Margaret Seawright’ has 17 of them so far. That’s pretty amazing for a cultivar growing in partial-shade.

It won’t be long now before the backyard bursts into a kaleidoscope of colors.
