LA Lily ‘Nashville’

I couldn’t stop snapping photos of this beautiful lily this summer. ‘Nashville’ is an LA Hybrid (a cross between an Asiatic lily and an Easter lily).

I love LA lilies because they are very hardy and they grow on strong stalks that don’t need staking. I didn’t think I’d get that excited about a plain-old yellow lily, but I was wrong. ‘Nashville’ grows 3 to 4 feet tall with very large bright-yellow, freckle-less flowers.

I planted ‘Nashville’ in a flowerbed that gets sun until about 1 p.m. It’s growing in front of a deciduous hedge and next to a very large clump of Joe Pye weed so there is plenty of lush, green foliage to contrast with the beautiful, sunny flowers. They brightened up an otherwise dark corner of my yard.

Like other LA hybrid lilies, ‘Nashville’ is slightly fragrant with thick petals. The plants are usually smaller the first year and grow taller with even thicker stems every year thereafter. My plants topped out at about 3 feet and I enjoyed blooms from late June into mid-July.
