While I’ve switched over to growing mostly species tulips, I couldn’t help but throw in a couple of regular garden tulips with my bulb order last fall. A girl can still dream of gardens where rodents don’t dig up her bulbs or lop off the tulip blossoms once they begin blooming, can’t she?
In the past I’ve been very impressed with Double Early Tulips like ‘Foxtrot’, ‘Orca’, and ‘Abba’. So last fall I purchased a few ‘Palmyra’ Double Early Tulip bulbs.
‘Palmyra’ has beautiful burgundy double flowers and grows 13 to 18 inches tall. The plants have robust stalks that can handle fickle spring weather. The flowers are absolutely captivating when basked in sunlight:
‘Palmyra’ really stands out when planted with gold daffodils or tulips. This cultivar blooms from early to mid-spring and is hardy in Zones 3-8.
