Daylily ‘Pearl Lewis’

Years ago, my friend and I went to a daylily farm that was going out of business, and we came home with the car trunk stuffed full of daylilies. Because some of the divisions were so large we were also able to share cultivars with each other making the number of daylilies we each planted even higher.

One of the cultivars my friend purchased was ‘Pearl Lewis’:

It’s not a color I would’ve picked on my own, but my goodness does that daylily perform.

‘Pearl Lewis’ grows 24 inches tall with 6-inch flowers. The registered description says the flowers are gold, but I would describe them as a pale orange-sherbety orange.

This dormant daylily was registered more than 30 years ago. My plant sends up scapes just loaded with flowers each summer, so the show lasts for well over a month.

I like to plant ‘Pearl Lewis’ next to yellow companions for a citrusy look (do you like my new word?).
