We got our first real taste of spring over the weekend (let’s just ignore this week’s forecast). Temperatures got into 60s for the first time since October 30th. There was a warm breeze out of the south that made it feel even more mild than it actually was. And best of all, we got to use our grill for the first time this year. Hurray!
In two more weeks I will be all done sowing seeds for the year. On Friday I planted several varieties of calendula seeds (like Antares Flashback pictured above). This week I have a few marigolds and some Black-eyed Susan vine seeds (thunbergia) to plant and then next week I finish with all zinnias. I grow a huge number of zinnia varieties, so I will sow more seeds next week than the previous 5 added together.
In about a month (assuming the weather stabilizes by then) I will start introducing my young plants to the elements for few hours a day until they are hardened off and ready for the garden (and the bunnies and the munching insects and the downpours and the hail—no wonder I have trouble sleeping for most of the month of May).
It won’t be long now…
