It’s getting crispy out there. Like other parts of the United States, southern Wisconsin is currently in a drought.
My homegrown plants have not seen a measurable rainfall since I put them in the ground. That was more than 4 weeks ago on May 21.
The grass will have to fend for itself, but I’m continuing to water my annuals and perennials enough to keep them thriving. If this lack of rain continues, however, I’m expecting our city will issue water restrictions.
What’s more concerning are the critters. My birdbath rims are surrounded by honeybees trying to keep their hives cool and hydrated.
I have to fill the birdbaths several times a day, and for several days in a row I’ve had panting birds in my yard.
