Wet and Weedy

I’ve lost track of how much rain has fallen in June, but it’s about 6 or 7 inches above normal. Last month we had above average rainfall as well.

I can honestly say that I have never seen so many weeds in my flowerbeds in my entire life. I go outside and weed a little every single day, but it barely makes a dent.

And the birds that used to hunker down and wait until the rain has passed don’t seem to care anymore if they get soaked. Lately, if they waited until there was no rain, they’d never get anything to eat!

The adults like to visit the feeders this time of year on a break from feeding their new broods. And some even bring their babies to the feeders. So far I’ve seen baby chickadees and young Downy Woodpeckers at the feeders with their parents.

While I wish we had more sunny days this spring and summer so far, I’ll gladly take this type of weather over a drought every time.
