I buy most of my daylily plants locally, but every once in awhile I’m tempted by a daylily photo in a catalog or online, and I take a chance on a mail order plant.
‘Savannah Fire Chief’ enticed me with its bright, fire-engine-red blooms. The flowers are enhanced by a yellow-orange halo and a bright yellow-green throat.
The flashy, 7-inch flowers bloom mid-season on 30-inch scapes.
Because my plant came from North Carolina, it needed a few years to adjust to our Wisconsin climate. It’s now a reliable bloomer in my garden and one of my favorite reds.
