It was nice to see my ‘Mauna Loa’ daylilies showing off once again this summer. I had forgotten to divide the plants for a number of years and they got overcrowded and protested by being stingy with the blooms.
This 1976-registered cultivar is my favorite orange daylily. The plants are just covered with flowers for weeks and weeks each summer.
The scapes only reach 22″ tall, so you can even use this daylily at the front of a border. A mass of them makes a gorgeous, bright, eye-catching display.
The 5-inch glowing-orange flowers appear in the middle of the daylily season and have a lovely fragrance.
