Years ago daylily ‘Moonlit Masquerade’ was all the rage. The cultivar won numerous awards including the coveted Stout Silver Medal. I saw one blooming at a botanical garden and the number of blooms it showcased on just that one plant was insane:
I bought ‘Moonlit Masquerade’ but it never performed well for me, and during some summers it was a complete no-show. I eventually learned that other people were also having problems with this daylily.
‘Instant Celebration’ on the other hand, has been a complete joy to grow. The flowers look somewhat similar to ‘Moonlit Masquerade’ although the purple eye is much wider and darker and the petals also have a purple edge:
This daylily grows 33 inches tall with 5-inch cream-colored flowers.
‘Instant Celebration’ has performed beautifully for me producing flowers for 4 or 5 weeks each summer since I first added it to one of my daylily beds about 6 years ago.
‘Instant Celebration’ blooms in the middle of the daylily season.
