I grow hundreds of different daylilies, but there are two cultivars that appear all around my yard because they are so easy to take care of, they bloom for 6 to 8 weeks or more each summer, and the colors are vivid and eye-catching.
‘Buttered Popcorn’ grows 32 inches tall with 6-inch, golden-yellow flowers. Not many daylilies are repeat bloomers in my Zone 5 garden, but this one has sent up additional scapes long after all my other daylilies have long since finished blooming for the season.
This tall daylily looks great at the back of a border, but I’ve even stuck it in the very front of one of my flowerbeds so I can walk by and smell the fragrant flowers.
‘Mauna Loa’ grows only 22 inches tall and the flowers are just a little smaller at 5 inches. They’re gorgeous like a sunset.
‘Mauna Loa’ grows anywhere for me—even in partial shade. I bought one plant many years ago, but after dividing it and planting more and then eventually dividing those plants, I now have this daylily growing all over my yard.
‘Mauna Loa’ has fragrant flowers that appear in the middle of the daylily season and keep coming for weeks and weeks.
