The hits just keep on comin’ for my surviving Orienpet lilies. When I was raking up the leaves from my flowerbeds a few weeks ago, I found numerous holes next to last year’s dried-up lily stalks. The chipmunks are everywhere and they were hungry after a long winter’s nap.
Orienpets have been one of my favorite flowers for many growing seasons now, but they are just too expensive to keep replacing if they are merely part of a salad bar for rodents.
I keep reminding myself that eventually the lily leaf beetle will make its way to southern Wisconsin, and then growing any lilies will become a hassle. Perhaps the chipmunks are doing me a favor by culling the herd early.
