The Tail of a Tree

I don’t know about you, but I can count on one hand the number of baby squirrels I’ve ever seen in my life. There are always MORE squirrels every spring, but they are already fully-formed by the time I lay eyes on them.

However when looking for migrating birds in the backyard on Saturday, I spotted this:

So I watched for bit and soon two squirrels came out of the hole in that hickory tree, and one was definitely smaller.

He stayed closed to mom, but soon mom jumped onto the utility wires and disappeared down the pole and baby didn’t want to follow. But he did practice his jumping skills near the burrow.

We had weather on Sunday that I can only describe as “blechhhh”. It even came with even a couple of hours of giant, wet snowflakes!

The squirrel family stayed inside too that day.
