This is the point in winter where I start to go a little stir crazy. And the only thing that could make it worse is being cooped up in a pandemic (never thought I’d be typing those words!). The normal cabin-fever-busting trips to a winter farmer’s market or conservatory or bookstore are off limits or challenging right now. And when the wind chill is in the minus 20s (F), it’s not much fun to take a brisk walk outside either. This is about as cabin fevery as cabin fever gets!
To help me focus on the positive, I’m going to spend the next week or so sharing some of my favorite birds and flowers.
Today I’m going to start with one of my favorite purple flowers: Daylily ‘Blueberry Breakfast’.
This daylily was registered 33 years ago (1988) and I’ve had one in my garden for almost 15 years now. There aren’t a lot of flowers that have that gorgeous lavender-blue color that this daylily displays.
‘Blueberry Breakfast’ grows 22 inches tall with 5-inch flowers. It’s a dormant daylily that blooms in the middle of the daylily season, and I’ve even had luck getting it to flower in partial-shade conditions.
