Five years ago I wrote about my ‘Potosi’ daylily, and I said it didn’t have a particularly long blooming season (but I also didn’t care because the flowers are so stunning!). This past summer ‘Potosi’ bloomed like crazy (in partial-shade besides!) and proved me wrong.
Yes it’s “just” a deep gold daylily, but the there’s depth to that color. As I mentioned back in 2017, “there is so much going on in those petals and sepals. Look deep into the flowers and it’s what I imagine looking into the sun must be like. There are oranges and corals and brighter yellows screaming to escape from behind that gold sheen.”
I purchased this daylily in 2008 and wrote back then that I based my decision on “a photograph and the rave reviews of a group of daylily enthusiasts who squealed with delight when I mentioned its name.” I certainly understand why they squealed. I grow dozens of gold daylilies there is no equal when it comes to the dazzling color of ‘Potosi’.
This dormant daylily was registered in 1982. The scapes grow 30 inches tall with 6-inch flowers that appear in the middle of the daylily season.
