More than a decade later I’m still in love with daylily ‘Margaret Seawright’, and as I wrote in 2014, I was hesitant to grow this cultivar at first:
I wasn’t sure I even wanted to grow daylily ‘Margaret Seawright’ when a friend gave me a small clump from her plant a few years ago, but this cultivar has really impressed me. I now consider it one of my all-time favorite daylilies.
‘Margaret Seawright’ has always been a reliable bloomer, but this summer my plant behaved like it was on steroids. Every day for more than 5 weeks I was greeted with oodles of cheerful orange and yellow flowers...
In 2022 this daylily was still a blooming fool:
I’ve divided this daylily so many times, I’ve lost count. Not because it grows out-of-control, but because I’m always excited to spread more of these charming, long-blooming plants around my yard.
From 2014: …‘Margaret Seawright’ grows 24 inches tall with 5-inch blooms, so it makes a flashy front-of-the-border plant. I have mine growing next to several bright-yellow daylilies which creates a nice sunny, citrus blend. This is an older cultivar (1985), so it might be more difficult to find, but it’s certainly worth the trouble if you’re looking for weeks and weeks of colorful blooms each summer from a carefree plant.
Doing a quick internet search I was able to find ‘Margaret Seawright’ still for sale for less than $8. That’s a steal for this almost-40-year-old, tried-and-true garden gem!
