We finally had a respectable Wisconsin snowfall over the weekend. Up until now our snow events have been very minor this winter, and for much of January we had no snow cover at all!
About 9-10 inches of light, fluffy snow fell on our property over an 18-hour period this weekend.
By Groundhog Day each year I’m more than ready for spring to arrive, so I’m not particularly thrilled about this snowstorm. But at least it’s being followed by several days of sunshine—something else we haven’t had a lot of this winter.
The songbirds generally go silent in November through January (unless of course they are warning each other of a predator), but they are already getting a lot more vocal. That’s an early sign that winter’s days are numbered.
