A friend was chiding me for buying my big, tri-colored mum in August already. She was going to wait to buy one until it was officially fall.
I may have the last laugh, however. Rather than choosing a blooming plant, I picked one that was smothered in flower buds.
It took 3 weeks for those buds to open. But the plant was in full bloom just in time for the first day of fall!
Plus by buying early, I got my choice of colors and I didn’t have to worry about frost damaging the plant before it got a chance to bloom and show off.
If you don’t have room for a tri-colored mum this size or if you only garden on a window sill, there’s good news (well, if you live near a Trader Joe’s location).
Trader Joe’s is selling miniature tri-colored mums this year! Aren’t they cute?
