Daylily ‘Siloam Midnight’

The first daylilies I ever bought were miniature bloomers. I wasn’t convinced that daylilies were all that interesting to begin with so I wanted to start small (so to speak). As I became more and more enamored with daylilies, I was seduced by the beautiful big blooms of the newer cultivars. In order to make room for them in my garden, I’ve slowly given away most of my miniatures.

‘Siloam Midnight’ caught my eye at a daylily sale and I just had to try it. This older cultivar (1988) has dark black-purple blooms and a green throat. The flowers are only 2.25 inches wide on a petite, 18-inch plant.

I was quite pleased with the color, and the little plant bloomed its heart out. ‘Siloam Midnight’ would make an excellent partner with ‘Double Cutie,’ a yellow miniature and one of the longest-blooming daylilies in my collection.
