Our first snowfall is on the books, and I’m already yearning for spring. It probably didn’t help that the snow ambushed us while we were sleeping and arrived with a raw blast of arctic air.
A few days ago I mulched some of my roses and butterfly bushes and noticed that the ground wasn’t even frozen yet (meaning I shouldn’t have been mulching, but that’s another matter), and now I can’t go outside without my eyeballs freezing solid.
So much for easing into winter.

Hi Em,
We were lolled into thinking maybe winter would by-pass us this year because it stayed so pleasant until late in November. But, you’re doing the right thing—thinking spring!! It’s actually just around the corner. In a few weeks, we’ll be in 2011 and once we get through January and February (a short month!), the buds and plants will start stirring!!
