Time: 3:30 p.m.

Conditions: 27 degrees. It snowed a bit overnight and stopped in time for the morning rush hour. It started again around 8:30 this morning and finally stopped about 30 minutes ago. For almost 3 hours this afternoon the snow was falling quite heavily. My guess is Madison’s total will be about 5 inches. ENOUGH ALREADY! (Note: it was indeed 5.1 inches bringing our snow total for the first 11 days of December to 21.1 inches)

Observed From: The house and outside.

Notes: I’m not the only one sick of the snow. The squirrels are particularly punchy today, fighting like kids with cabin fever.

Today’s Count:

  • 4 Gray Squirrels
  • 6 Mourning Doves (so far). There are at least 7 others lurking somewhere
  • 10 Juncos
  • 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker
  • 6 House Sparrows
  • 2 Starlings: Oh, joy! (Yes, that’s sarcasm)
  • 2 Cardinals
  • 1 Downy Woodpecker
  • 6 Goldfinches
  • 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch
  • 1 Chickadee
  • 1 pooped shoveler
