I’ve been up to my eyebrows in acorns for over a month now. They smack the roof throughout the day and wake me with a start at night. Some of them bounce and others roll. It sounds like our roof is being attacked by a giant sack of marbles. Every once in awhile an acorn manages to evade the gutter guards and clank down the metal downspout. It’s happened dozens of times already, but I still jump every time.
In August the grackles and squirrels were the culprits. They were high in the oak trees fighting over as many acorns as they could stuff in their mouths. They dropped hundreds.
Now the acorns are just falling on their own. In fact, on a windy day it’s actually dangerous to walk around my house because they come raining down from 70 feet above and leave bruises if you get plunked.
I sure hope acorn showers bring beautiful October weather. That didn’t rhyme or make much sense, but you shouldn’t expect much from someone who has been jumpy and sleep-deprived for 4 weeks…
