Daylilies are supposed to have 3 petals and 3 sepals in their flower whorl, but sometimes they produce more. Those flowers used to be called polytepals, but because botany terms have changed the extra-adorned flowers are now called polymerous.
Most of the polymerous daylily flowers I see have 4 petals and 4 sepals, but every once in awhile you get 6 and 6. This is what my ‘Grey Witch’ daylily flowers normally look like:
