Chipmunks should be snoozing away this time of year, but I’ve got a feisty one that pops out of his winter den anytime the temperature gets above 20 degrees (F). That’s highly unusual.
Perhaps he senses that we’re about to enter a prolonged period of very frigid, below-normal temperatures and he has decided to surface and restock his pantry.
My guess is that the mess under the feeders made by those exasperating, seed-flicking starlings was just too tempting for him to pass up.
