My friend knows I go stir crazy in the winter without flowers, so she very kindly got me a fancy orchid for Christmas last year. Unfortunately, it was kind of a debacle when the Fed-Ex delivery person left it in the truck overnight in frigid weather and my poor orchid was dead on arrival.
However, the company shipped a replacement orchid in the spring and it bloomed for me for several weeks. I’ve only grown one orchid in the past. It bloomed for months and months, but when it was done I was never able to get it to do anything but take up space.
I may get luckier with this new orchid. A few weeks ago I noticed that it was starting to grow new leaves:
