Daylily ‘Spoons for Escargots’

Sometimes I wonder how daylily hybridizers come up with such interesting names for their creations. Perhaps it’s more difficult to name a cultivar than it is to breed it. I know I would have an impossible time choosing a name.

‘Spoons for Escargots’ is a cleverly-named daylily with rose-colored petals that have a darker pink eye and a very large yellow-green throat. This unusual-form cultivar (UFO) is a spatulate which means the fattest part of the petal comes after the mid-point.

‘Spoons for Escargots’ has very large 7-inch flowers that appear on 28-inch scapes.

This semi-evergreeen daylily blooms in the middle of the daylily season and looks especially fetching planted with purple, pink or yellow flowers.
