Translucent Lilies

About 4.5 inches of rain fell in 90 minutes the other night. It caused a river in our yard that ended up in our basement, but a roofing repair company showed up at my neighbor’s house the next morning, so things could be a lot worse. The good news is my flowers fared very well. I was afraid to look out the window the next morning, but everything was still standing proudly.

Daylilies have an advantage in a deluge of rain because the flowers don’t usually start opening until morning. Lilies that grow from bulbs, however, don’t have that advantage. Some of my lilies were almost translucent the next day, but it’s kind of a pretty effect:
