Wisconsin is home to 11 different species of turtles, but as far as I know I’ve only seen the Painted Turtle and the Common Snapping Turtle in the wild.
Painted turtles are quite common in some of my favorite birding spots. I usually see them sunning themselves together on logs in marshes or in ponds.
Painted Turtles eat snails, crayfish, insects and aquatic plants.
We’re running out of warm days, and this bunch I spotted yesterday was taking advantage of one of the last summery days we may experience until next year.
