I finally remembered to sprout some Opera petunias again. Operas used to be my go-to petunia, but then other newer varieties hogged the spotlight and the seeds got harder to find. Two summers ago my brother-in-law had a lovely display of ‘Raspberry Ice’ Opera petunias in some pots and planters, and I made a note to grow some again.
Opera petunias are heavy-blooming trailing petunias. Many petunias start to die out in the middle once you reach late July or early August, but Operas have always kept blooming all summer for me.
Operas mound up nicely in a pot before tumbling and trailing as much as 3 feet. ‘Raspberry Ice’ is a lovely light pink with a darker-pink center and veins. I filled a pot with them and put it next to a pot filled with the pretty lavender ‘Headliner Crystal Sky’ petunias.
