It’s just a plain ol’ deep-yellow daylily, and it was registered more than 40 years ago now, but as I sit on my back porch looking out at my flowerbeds, the first thing that catches my eye amongst hundreds of blooming flowers is ‘Gold Citation’.
I’ve had this cultivar for so long now that I don’t even remember how I acquired it.
‘Gold Citation’ grows 30 inches tall with 6-inch flowers. Most daylilies don’t have a noticeable fragrance, but this one does.
One of its parent plants is ‘Mary Todd’ which won many awards including the Stout Silver Medal—the highest award a daylily can receive. I’ve had 3 ‘Mary Todd’ daylilies anchoring my front yard flowerbed for more than 15 years now. ‘Gold Citation’ is a very bright yellow, whereas ‘Mary Todd’s flowers are a buff yellow.
‘Gold Citation’ is a hardy, dormant daylily that blooms early in the daylily season.
